Tony Conrad
"Tony Conrad, born in Concord, New Hampshire. Studied mathematics. Entered film by way of music, first as a composer-performer and then as the composer of the scores for films such as Jack Smith's Flaming Creatures, Ron Rice's Chumlum and Piero Heliczer's Joan of Arc. His first film, The Flicker (1966), was an outgrowth of his concern with rythm in approach from perceptual films to films that explore the nature of film itself. He is, in fact, exploring what he can do to both the definition of film and to the physical existence of the film stock itself." Programme de la Cinquième Compétition Internationale du film Expérimental, Knokke-Heist (Belgique), 25/12/74 - 02/01/75, (ed. par la Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique, Bruxelles) |
